Meet Jeffrey T. Gunnell, DC
Dr. Gunnell wasn’t always planning on becoming a chiropractor. He went to Brigham Young University to be a physical therapist, but then shifted his focus to medical school. “I read an article comparing medical school and chiropractic college, and all the things I love to do, like physiology and anatomy, and working individually with people.”
Dr. Gunnell discovered that students spent much more time on those things in chiropractic school than medical school, which focused more on pharmacology and medicine. “I realized maybe I need to look into this chiropractic thing.”
Experiencing the Effects of Chiropractic
At the time, Dr. Gunnell had never seen a chiropractor before. He went and got adjusted for the first time, felt fantastic, and decided to pursue a chiropractic career. He only applied to Palmer College of Chiropractic and got in immediately.
While at school, Dr. Gunnell woke up one morning, with searing pain down his leg. Unable to move his leg, he had an MRI that revealed he had two ruptured discs in his spine, cutting off 50% of his spinal cord. Dr. Gunnell was losing a lot of function in his right foot and decided to go full bore into getting chiropractic care.
“I got treated for about three months, consistently three to four times a week, and regained full function without surgery.” Dr. Gunnell recognized that chiropractic helps people’s bodies move in the right direction naturally, and allows them to express themselves at a higher capacity.
When he was at school, Dr. Gunnell learned for the first time that the body controls and monitors itself, and that if you remove any nervous system interference, the body will take over and allow itself to heal.
